There are days when life feels overwhelming—when the weight of circumstances presses hard against our hearts and minds. Challenges rise like mountains: illness, uncertainty, broken relationships, fear of the unknown. In those moments, it’s easy to feel small, powerless, and defeated.

But as believers, we are called to remember something powerful: God is bigger.

When I first began rehabilitation for my traumatic brain injury, I remember thinking, “I can beat this!” After 5 years, it was becoming obvious that I wasn’t beating it. Then my mantra became, “I am bigger than this!”

Or should I say, God is bigger than this!

Bigger than the diagnosis.

Bigger than the anxiety.

Bigger than the financial strain.

Bigger than the mistakes we’ve made.

When we fix our eyes on the problem, it grows. But when we lift our eyes to God, we begin to see clearly again…to have hope. The same God who spoke the universe into existence, who parted seas and raised the dead, is the One who lives within us.

 

The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?

 Psalm 27:1 (NIV)

 

Being “bigger” doesn’t mean we ignore reality or pretend struggles don’t exist. It means we refuse to let those struggles define us. It means we stand firm in faith, even when our knees shake. It means choosing trust over fear, hope over despair, and truth over lies.

 

Sometimes being bigger looks like forgiveness when it’s undeserved.

Sometimes it’s patience when everything in us wants to react.

Sometimes it’s simply getting out of bed and trusting God for one more day.

 

As I get older and my balance begins to diminish like every other human being, it’s easy to think, “What have I been doing all this work for?” I know I’m strong, but sometimes it’s just too much!

 

God never asked us to be strong on our own—He asked us to rely on His strength.

 

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Isaiah 40:29 (NIV)

 

When we feel small, remember this: the size of our problem does not determine the outcome—God does. And He has never been intimidated by anything we are facing.

And today, I think I’m preaching to myself!

 

Let’s choose to be bigger. Not by our own might, but by leaning into the One who is infinitely greater. Let’s not be pessimistic or negative about whatever we’re facing. Walk in faith, even when the path ahead is hidden.

 

Because when God is with you, you are never outmatched.

 

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us..

Dear Lord,

 Thank You for being greater than anything I face. When my problems feel overwhelming, remind me that You are still in control. Strengthen my faith when I feel weak, and help me to trust You more deeply each day. Teach me to rise above fear, doubt, and discouragement—not in my own strength, but in Yours.

Help me to reflect Your power, Your peace, and Your presence in every situation.
