Christmas is a season filled with lights, music, and celebration—but beneath all of it is a quiet invitation from God: to use the gifts He has given us to bless others.
I’ll keep this blog post with a Christmas theme; but we can and do use our God-given gifts all year round.
Just as the star guided the wise men to Jesus, our gifts can guide people toward hope, comfort, and the love of Christ.
The Gift-Giver Is the One Who Sends Us
Christmas reminds us that God is the first and greatest Gift-Giver.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (NIV)
Because God gave Himself, we are called to give ourselves—our time, our talents, our encouragement, our helping hands—to reflect His love in the world.
Using Our Gifts Is an Act of Worship
The wise men brought gifts not out of obligation, but out of worship and recognition of Jesus’ worth.
On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Matthew 2:11 (NIV)
Our “gold” might be leadership.
Our “frankincense” could be compassion.
Our “myrrh” might be hospitality, creativity, teaching, or listening… OUR EMPATHY
Whatever our gifts are, offering them in service becomes an act of worship—especially during a season when so many feel lonely, overwhelmed, or forgotten.
Christmas Invites Us to Love in Action
God’s gift was not abstract; it was real, tangible, and deeply personal.
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
1 Peter 4:10 NIV
At Christmas, and throughout the year, we can use our special gifts to help others. We may be surprised at what we already do instinctively.
Encouragement: sending a heartfelt card or text to someone who’s struggling or grieving.
Hospitality: opening our home or table to someone without family nearby.
Generosity: sponsoring a family, a child, or a ministry or giving an unexpected gift to someone in need.
Service: volunteering at church, visiting a nursing home, or helping a neighbor.
Kindness: offering patience, compassion, or forgiveness where it’s needed most.
Kindness and PATIENCE from others are a gift from God to me! Living with someone with disabilities demands a lot of both.
These small acts echo the heart of Christmas: God reaching down to meet us in our need. Then we can go on to help others in their need however we can.
Our Gifts Point to the True Light
When we use our gifts for others, we shine the light of Christ into a world that desperately needs warmth.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:16 (NIV)
Christmas is the perfect season to let our light shine—not for our glory, but so that others may see Jesus, the Light of the World.
Please have a happy and holy Christmas!
Dear Lord,
Thank You for the greatest gift ever given—Your Son, Jesus. As we enter this Christmas season, help us recognize the gifts You have placed within us. Teach us to use them not for our own praise, but to bless and serve those around us. Open our eyes to the people who need Your love this season. Let our words, our actions, and our gifts reflect the light of Christ in a world that needs hope.
