Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.
Luke 2:51 (NIV)
As we honor all mothers worldwide, let’s take the month of May to especially celebrate the mother of our savior, Jesus Christ.
A mother’s love for her child is like no other. Her child is ‘bone of her bone, and flesh of her flesh.’ A mother’s love is instinctive! It doesn’t look for any qualifications. She loves completely from her heart. Isn’t that how we feel about our own children?
We’ve all heard…and most likely have said at some time in our life…I want my Mommy! A mother’s love is protective. It encourages. It looks for ways to make the wrong things right.
All of us, whether our own mother is still with us…or gone to be with the Lord can remember that feeling of complete nourishing and protective love! We can ALL feel that same tender care and assurance when we lean on God, seeking His love for us.

Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget, I will not forget you!
Isaiah 49:15 (NIV)
God’s love for us will surpass even a mother’s deep, nurturing love. Even if it were possible for a mother to forget her child, God will never forget us.
Jesus’ mother, Mary had the same love for Him as we have for our own children. Jesus felt the same comfort and nurturing in His mother’s presence that we all do. Then Jesus went on to provide that same love and protection for all who believe in Him.
As a mother comforts her child,
so will I comfort you;
and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.
Isaiah 66:13 (NIV)
Children will continue to say, “I want my mommy!” As Christ’ followers, we can all join them in saying…I want Jesus!
So just as a mother watches over her child; God watches out for all His children…and that includes each of us! Regardless of what’s going on in our life right now, we need to trust that God wants only the best for us.
Hang on to that…and trust Him!
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight
Proverbs 3:5 -6 (NIV)
Dear Lord,
Thank You for letting us experience our mother’s love. It gives us just a glimpse of how much You love and care for us.
Help us to trust Your love for each of us, even when things aren’t going as we planned.
Like a mother cares for and loves her child: help us rest in the knowledge that You will provide love and peace as we put our faith in You.
