We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
2Corinthians 4:8-10 (NIV)
Who likes to wait?….Anyone? It’s in our makeup to be impatient. Look at those adorable infants we like to coo over. They’re not so precious when they’re not getting what they want…NOW!
Waiting well is something we must learn to do. It will never be second nature, but as we accumulate more and more life experiences, we start to see that waiting is just part of life. We sure don’t like it though!
We may be waiting for a specific plan to move forward, a child to turn around, a heartbreak to end, a diagnosis to be made. We may just be waiting for it to stop raining!
This blog is about waiting with resilience & hope.
The Webster dictionary defines resilience as Springing back into shape; recovering strength.
I teach fitness classes five days/week. I wouldn’t call it a career, but more of a calling from God. Because of my physical disability (poor balance), I could write a book on springing back into shape and recovering strength. I’m not talking about physical strength though, but a new attitude and way of thinking. That’s much more important (and usually more difficult) than whipping your body into shape.
To reach that new mindset requires not just residence. It requires HOPE in a positive outcome. It’s that hope that keeps us moving forward, regardless of the challenges we’re facing. Resilience can give us the ability to keep pressing on, but it’s hope in a brighter future that can put a smile on our face, and a spring in our step while we WAIT for the desired outcome.
That’s where our faith in God becomes so valuable and relevant. Ever noticed how any problem is easier to handle when we’re relying on someone else to make it all better? Lean into God with the dilemma. He will show us the highest and most favorable way to handle our wait.
Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord
Psalm 37:14 (NIV)
Waiting isn’t fun for any of us, but we can actually have JOY while we wait. Keep looking to the Lord during the wait. Being a God of the impossible…there’s no telling how He may graciously surprise you!
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
Dear Lord,
Waiting on our own is stifling and frustrating. Waiting with You makes us feel like You’re in charge of the outcome. (You always are anyway.)
Help us to keep You always in our heart as we face an unknown future. With You at the reign, we know that all things are possible.

You certainly are a good model for us all in the waiting game.
I went through such a time of waiting when our son was in high school. He had gone way off the beaten path and I endured a long waiting period. Isaiah 40:31 was one of the verses that sustained me in that hard time. Thanks for the reminder.
